After Bloomberg reported on Apple releasing their new 16-inch MacBook Pro sometime this week, the Cupertino-based company released the new Pro Notebook early this morning. Here’s everything you need to know.
In a fresh report from yesterday evening, Apple reportedly had plans to release the new 16-inch MacBook Pro as soon as today. This morning, customers woke up to a press release announcing the new Pro Notebook.
“Apple today unveiled an all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro — the world’s best pro notebook — designed for developers, photographers, filmmakers, scientists, music producers and anyone who relies on a Mac to create their life’s best work,” says the press release.
The new MacBook Pro features a larger 16-inch Retina display—the largest Retina display in a MacBook, ever. The new model also features a new thermal design to ensure the components are cooled properly.
As far as components, the base-line $2399 16-inch MacBook Pro comes equipped with 2.6GHz 6-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, AMD Radeon Pro 5300M with 4GB of GDDR6 memory, 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory, and a 512GB SSD for storage.
You can configure a 16-inch MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz 8‑core Intel Core i9, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz, 8 TB of SSD storage, 64 GB of memory, and an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. This configuration is $6,099.
“With its brilliant 16-inch Retina display, 8-core processors, next-gen pro graphics, even better thermal design, new Magic Keyboard, six-speaker sound system, 100Wh battery, up to 8TB of storage and 64GB of fast memory, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the world’s best pro notebook,” said Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing.
One of the biggest features of the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the revised Magic Keyboard. Apple revised the design of the old Butterfly mechanism and replaced it with a scissor mechanism. This new mechanism provides 1mm of key travel. The keyboard also features an Apple-designed rubber dome that stores more potential energy for a responsive key press.
“Incorporating extensive research and user studies focused on human factors and key design, the 16-inch MacBook Pro delivers a keyboard with a comfortable, satisfying and quiet typing experience. The new Magic Keyboard also features a physical Escape key and an inverted-“T” arrangement for the arrow keys, along with Touch Bar and Touch ID, for a keyboard that delivers the best typing experience ever on a Mac notebook,” says Apple.
The new 16-inch MacBook Pro is avaliable today at Apple’s online store. It will be avaliable in-store later this week. It’ll only be avaliable in the US at the moment, with expansion to other countries in the near future.
The standard configuration is $2,399, while the highest end model will run you $6,099.
