Apple Maps was available on iPhones in India for years, but it lacked turn-by-turn navigation. Now, Apple finally rolls out the feature to iOS users in India.
Aiming to make GPS navigation better and ride-hailing easier for iPhone users in India, Apple rolled out turn-by-turn directions as well as support for cab-hailing apps Uber and Ola in Apple Maps in the country.
For years, Google Maps has been the main navigation app for mobile users in India, owing to its vast feature set and up-to-date map data. Apple’s new navigation feature might not have an immediate effect on iPhone owners but it’s a start towards an alternative.
Apple Maps rival Google Maps has been the go-to navigation app in India for quite some time now, thanks to the wide variety of driving, walking and public transport modes built-in. The navigation is fine but lacks a lot of details with a few missing roads and landmarks. It has support to call Ola and Uber while viewing the route.
The Apple Maps app would receive some updates and could compete with Google Maps and Waze.
